ABOUT SHEENA
"Angel of beautiful Gaelic music"
-Fran Connell
-Mòd Nàiseanta Aimeireagaidh 2023
Sheena was born in Antigonish, the Highland heart of Nova Scotia, and nurtured within its rich musical heritage. Sheena has fond memories of Cape Breton kitchen parties at her grandparents’ house in Little Judique Ponds, where there was always step dancing and fiddle music well into the night. Some of her favourite moments were spent singing Scottish Gaelic songs with her grandmother; a beloved native Gaelic speaker, and large supporter of the arts.
She began to impress audiences at the age of three with her traditional step-dancing and clogging talents. Soon after, she took up singing, dancing and musical theatre. Since then, Sheena has built a distinguished career, travelling and performing all over the world from Canada, the United States, and Japan, from very small stages to singing in large arenas.
Sheena holds bachelor’s degrees in modern languages and education from Saint Francis Xavier University. Education is important to her and is reflected in Sheena’s dedication to teaching Gaelic music to children via her YouTube channel and online social media platforms. Her reputation as a teacher has brought her to conduct Gaelic children’s song workshops at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in North Carolina.
In 2020, Sheena released her first Gaelic single, Taladh Chriosda, a virtual collaboration
during Covid. Sheena was honoured to release Ciuin An Oidhche (Silent Night) during Christmas 2023, and is excited to release O Teannaibh Dluth (Draw together and let us sing a song) in 2024.
